Saved from Suicide

Last year before I headed to the street for evangelism, I woke up early and began to pray. I asked God to send me someone who was suicidal so that I could minister and help that person.

Later that afternoon I was giving out tracts and forgot all about my prayer.

It was then I met a young girl which I will call Sofie* (*name changed for privacy).
I started to have a conversation with her about Jesus, it was clear she didn’t know much about Him.

‘‘Where are you going?’’ I asked Sofie.
‘‘I’m going to buy some paracetamol to end my life,’’ she replied.
‘‘You are so young,’’ I said. ‘‘How old are you?
Why would you want to end your life?’’

I could see the deep sadness in her eyes. Sofie had been sexually abused by her father when she was a young child and she said had never gotten over it. I was shocked about her words and then remembered the prayer I had prayed that morning. I was so moved with deep compassion for her and at that moment, nothing in this world mattered more than saving Sofie’s life.

‘‘If you ended your life now Sofie,’’ I said to her, ‘‘the world would lose someone precious that could never be replaced. You are unique, you’re the only Sofie in the world with your DNA. Sofie, you are more precious and valuable than diamonds.’’

I asked Sofie if I could pray for her and she said yes.

After I prayed, I brought her to the rest of the team and introduced her to one of the ladies who took down her number.

I asked Sofie if she felt suicidal and she said she no longer did. Praise God!
The lady from my team is still in contact with Sofie and she is still alive to this day. We keep Sofie in our prayers as she needs to be in a godly environment. Due to her younger age, we are limited in what we can do but our prayers are not limited.

We are thankful to the Lord for intervening in this situation. It reminded us that God sees every soul as precious and there truly is power in prayer.

Please join us as we continue to pray for Sofie.
